What’s the experience like?

“You’ll never forget the sound,” our guide Mark said as we shuffled closer to the edge near Table Rock Welcome Centre. He grinned like he’d seen this a thousand times but still loved it. I could already hear that low thunder—honestly, it made my stomach flutter a bit. We started out passing Skylon Tower (that thing really does loom over everything), and Mark pointed out the old hydro station on our way down the Incline Railway. The windows fogged up from everyone’s breath; someone’s kid pressed their nose to the glass and left a perfect smudge. I remember thinking: is this all going to feel too touristy? But then you see the water for real and, yeah, you just kind of stop talking for a second.

The Journey Behind the Falls part was wild—literally damp stone under your hands as you walk those tunnels, and then suddenly there’s this blast of cold air and noise where you step out right behind Horseshoe Falls. It’s so loud you have to shout if you want anyone to hear you. I leaned over the rail and got soaked in seconds (poncho or not). Mark told us how much water pours over every second—some number I immediately forgot because I was busy blinking water out of my eyes. There’s this weird mix of excitement and calm down there; nobody seemed in a rush to leave.

We wandered through Queen Victoria Park after—flowers everywhere, even in late spring, and that constant rumble in the background. The boat cruise with Niagara City Cruises was last for us, right up into that thick white mist at the base of Horseshoe Falls. Everyone laughed when we all tried to take selfies and just ended up with blurry poncho faces. The river wind actually tastes like minerals—salty? metallic? Not sure how to describe it but it sticks with you. Afterward, walking back along Niagara Parkway, I kept glancing back at the falls like maybe they’d look different each time.
