Hop on a bike and cruise through Jaco’s lively streets with a local guide leading the way. Discover massive murals by Costa Rican and international artists, learn about neighborhood stories, and enjoy beachside views as you ride. End your tour with a cool drink and new appreciation for this creative town.
“Check out that giant toucan!” our guide called as we rolled down Calle Madrigal, the sun already warming our backs. I’d never seen murals this bold—splashes of turquoise and orange stretching across old shop walls, some so detailed you could spot tiny brush marks up close. The salty air from Jaco Beach drifted in, mixing with the faint smell of fresh paint as we paused to snap photos near Carton’s surf shop.
We zigzagged through busy streets where locals chatted outside bakeries and kids zipped by on skateboards. Our guide knew every shortcut and story—he pointed out a mural near the Catholic church that showed Costa Rican traditions, explaining how artists from all over come here just to leave their mark. It was easy to get caught up in his excitement; he even shared which pieces were painted during last year’s festival.
The ride itself felt relaxed, nothing too fast or tough, even for someone like me who doesn’t cycle much. We stopped often—sometimes just to watch an artist at work or feel the breeze by the river. By the end, my legs were a little tired but I didn’t mind at all. We finished with cold drinks at a shaded café, swapping favorite mural photos and laughing about our wobbly starts on the bikes.
