What’s the experience like?

“You made it!” That’s what our driver said as we rolled our bags out of Dubrovnik Airport — and honestly, after that flight, it felt good to hear. The van was waiting just outside, not too flashy but clean and cool inside (thank God for air conditioning). I remember the faint smell of pine trees drifting in through the open window as we pulled away. Our driver, Marko, chatted about his favorite beaches and pointed out where the old city walls peeked over the hills. I tried to pronounce “Lapad” right — he grinned and said I was close enough.

The drive into town only took about 25 minutes, but it didn’t feel rushed. Marko had this way of making us feel like we weren’t just passengers — more like guests he wanted to show his city to. He even offered to stop if we needed groceries or anything (we didn’t, but it was nice). The WiFi actually worked, so I sent my mom a photo of the coastline before we’d even checked in. There’s something about seeing those red rooftops for the first time that sticks with you.

I didn’t expect a private airport transfer in Dubrovnik to be this relaxed — usually I’m bracing for chaos at arrivals. But here, it was just easy. No waiting around or confusion; just a quick hello and off we went. Even when our flight landed late, Marko was still there (he said they track flights so delays aren’t a problem).
