It’s weird how landing in Cairo hit me all at once—the air was thick, a little sweet, and I could hear someone calling names over the hum of arrivals. He helped with my bag (which was heavier than I remembered packing) and led me out past the taxi chaos into a car that actually smelled clean—like lemon, maybe?

Our driver chatted just enough—he pointed out the Nile as we crossed it, told me which side of the city had the best falafel (I still haven’t tried it), and didn’t mind when I got quiet staring at the traffic outside. There’s this low buzz in Cairo you can’t really describe until you’re stuck in it—horns, people waving from scooters, sunlight bouncing off old buildings. It wasn’t a long ride from Cairo Airport to my hotel in Giza but somehow it felt like an intro to the city itself. The bottled water he handed me tasted colder than anything should after a flight.

When we pulled up at the hotel entrance, he hopped out first and made sure my suitcase made it right to the door.
