What’s the experience like?

Stepping out of the arrivals hall at Hurghada Airport, the first thing that hit me was the warm air—mixed with a faint scent of sea breeze and car exhaust. Our driver stood just past the sliding doors, holding a sign with my name. He grinned and waved, which made it easy to spot him even in the small crowd. I barely had time to adjust my backpack before he offered to help with my suitcase—no fuss, just a quick lift into the back of a clean minibus.

The inside was cool—thankfully, since outside felt like midday even though it was only 9am. Soft Arabic pop played on the radio. The driver checked if I wanted the music lower (I did), then we set off. The roads around Hurghada are wide and mostly smooth; you’ll notice a few camels grazing by the roadside if you look out at just the right moment. Depending on traffic and which hotel you’re heading for—central Hurghada, Makadi Bay, or Sahl Hasheesh—the ride can be anywhere from 20 minutes up to an hour. Ours took about 35 minutes, door-to-door.
