“Welcome to Egypt!” That’s what our driver called out as I stepped into the arrivals hall, suitcase wheels clacking on the shiny floor. The airport felt busy but not rushed—just a mix of families, couples, and solo travelers blinking under the bright lights. Our guide was easy to spot, holding a sign with my name and waving like he’d been waiting all day just for us.

The air outside hit me—a dry warmth that’s different from the sticky heat back home. We slid into a spotless, air-conditioned car (a relief after the flight), and I noticed right away how quiet it was inside compared to the honking taxis outside. There was chilled bottled water ready in the cup holder, which honestly tasted better than I expected after hours on a plane. Our driver chatted about local neighborhoods as we passed them—he pointed out where locals go for seafood and which hotels have the best views of the Red Sea.

It didn’t take long to reach our hotel, but I liked watching Hurghada wake up: shopkeepers sweeping their doorways, kids darting between cars, even a stray cat sunning itself near a bakery. The whole ride felt safe and relaxed—no rushing or confusion—and our driver made sure everything was accessible for my friend’s stroller without us having to ask twice.
