What’s the experience like?

We hopped into the golf cart just off the Champs Élysées, and I swear I could still smell buttery croissants from a bakery nearby. Our guide, Lucie, had this way of pointing out things I’d never have noticed—she waved at an old man walking his dog and told us he’s lived in the 8th arrondissement for forty years. The city felt both huge and oddly close at the same time. As we zipped past luxury shops and those little green newsstands, I tried to take it all in but honestly got distracted by how soft the blanket was on my lap (it was colder than I expected for May).

We stopped at Trocadéro for that classic Eiffel Tower view—yeah, you’ve seen it a million times online, but when you’re actually there, with street musicians playing something jazzy in the background and tourists fumbling with selfie sticks, it just hits different. Lucie shared a story about the tower being painted every seven years (I didn’t know that), and then she let us linger for photos. At Pont Alexandre III, she pointed out tiny gold details I would’ve missed if I’d been walking alone. There’s something about seeing Paris from this low-to-the-ground seat—almost like you’re sneaking around its edges.

The Louvre’s glass pyramid caught some late sun as we rolled through the 1st arrondissement; people were everywhere but somehow it didn’t feel crowded from our little bubble. We passed Place Vendôme (so many sparkling windows) and Lucie made a joke about not affording anything there—same here. She talked about Napoleon at Hôtel des Invalides with this proud tone that made me wish my high school history classes had been half as interesting. Sometimes I forgot we were on a tour because it felt more like hanging out with someone who really loves their city.

By the time we reached Notre-Dame in the 4th arrondissement, it was getting cooler again—the kind of chill that makes your hands tingle when you climb out of the cart. Lucie handed us bottled water and asked if we wanted to keep going or just sit for a minute to watch people crossing the bridge. We stayed longer than planned; there was something calming about just sitting there while all of Paris kept moving around us. Even now, sometimes I remember how quiet that moment felt compared to everything else.
