What’s the experience like?

Ever wondered if you’d actually see a tiger? I didn’t think much about it until we were bumping through Ranthambore just after dawn — dew on the grass, that weird mix of woodsmoke and cardamom from someone’s breakfast fire drifting in the air. Our guide, Rajesh, kept scanning the undergrowth with this quiet intensity. When he finally pointed — not even speaking, just a little flick of his hand — there she was. A tigress stretched out in a patch of sunlight like she owned the whole world. I still grin thinking about how we all froze, barely breathing.

The whole Golden Triangle tour from Delhi felt like that: moments you can’t plan for. We started with Delhi’s chaos (in a good way), zipping between Qutub Minar’s ancient stones and the Lotus Temple’s cool marble hush. Our driver Ajay somehow threaded us through traffic while telling stories about his cricket days — I’m not sure what was more impressive. Lunch was this thali spot where I tried something green and spicy; no one could quite translate it but it burned so good.

Agra was next — sunrise at the Taj Mahal is everything people say but also quieter than I expected. There’s this moment when the marble goes pink and everyone just stops talking for once. Later we wandered Agra Fort with our local guide who kept pointing out tiny details: “See this carving? That’s a parrot… or maybe a mango.” He laughed at my confusion but you could tell he loved sharing these things.

Jaipur felt warmer (literally and otherwise). The City Palace glowed in late afternoon light and kids ran circles around us outside Jantar Mantar. Our last lunch was somewhere off a side street — paneer so soft it almost fell apart before you could eat it. By then we were tired in that good way you get from seeing too much beauty at once. The drive back to Delhi was mostly quiet except for Ajay humming old Bollywood songs under his breath.
