Summary

Cook Tuscan classics in a family home with chef Giacomo

You’ll join chef Giacomo in his family’s Tuscan kitchen for a real hands-on cooking class — rolling gnocchi dough, tasting local wines with each course, sharing stories over lunch at their big wooden table. Expect laughter, new friends, and flavors that linger long after you’ve left the terrace.

experience

What’s the experience like?

Giacomo greeted us at the door with flour on his hands — literally. His mother was somewhere in the background humming, and I could smell garlic and something earthy even before we’d started. We were a mixed bunch (one couple from Berlin, a solo traveler from Canada, me and my partner), but somehow it felt like we’d been invited to someone’s Sunday lunch rather than just another Tuscan cooking class. Giacomo told us about his grandmother’s bruschetta — he said “bru-sketta” very carefully, and Li laughed when I tried to say it in Italian. I probably butchered it.

I didn’t expect to get my hands so messy making gnocchi — soft dough sticking to my fingers, flour everywhere (aprons included, thank god). The kitchen had this old wooden table with knife marks and wine stains from who knows how many years. Giacomo showed us how to roll out pappardelle; he made it look easy but mine came out kind of lopsided. He just grinned and said “this is tradition.” He kept pouring little tastes of Chianti as we worked, explaining why this wine goes with that sauce — honestly, I still think about that pairing.

Lunch was loud in the best way: plates passed around, people comparing their gnocchi shapes (mine were… unique), Giacomo telling stories about Chianina beef and why his family never rushes tiramisu. Dessert was on the terrace. The sun had come out after a cloudy morning — you could see olive trees for miles. Someone spilled coffee on the tablecloth and nobody cared. It felt like being part of something ongoing, not just a day trip from Florence or Siena. I left full but also weirdly sentimental about pasta shapes.
