Summary

Buggy adventure through gozo’s rugged cliffs, blue bays and comino caves with swim stop

You’ll drive your own buggy across Gozo’s winding trails with a local guide leading the way, stopping for stories at ancient washhouses and dramatic cliff edges. Enjoy a picnic lunch outdoors before sailing by Comino’s caves for a swim in Blue Lagoon’s famous turquoise water. It’s dusty, salty, loud — and leaves you smiling long after you’ve rinsed off.

experience

What’s the experience like?

"You ever driven a buggy before?" That’s what Mario asked as he handed me the keys in Gozo, grinning like he already knew the answer. I’d barely finished my coffee and suddenly I was behind the wheel, helmet on, engine rumbling under my hands. The air smelled like wild thyme and salt — honestly, it woke me up faster than espresso. We set off in a little convoy, dust swirling behind us as we bounced along these narrow country trails. Mario would wave his arm out the window now and then, pointing at some old stone walls or sheep grazing in the distance. He told us about Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs — apparently they’re 150 meters high but standing there with that wind whipping around your ears, it feels even bigger.

I didn’t expect to care much about Fontana’s old washhouses but our guide Anna stopped us there anyway. She showed us how women used to scrub clothes on those smooth stones — you could still smell the damp limestone if you leaned close enough. Then we zipped down to Xlendi Bay where fishing boats bobbed quietly and kids were already splashing around (in April!). The sun was sharp off the water; I remember squinting so hard I nearly missed Anna handing out pastizzi from her backpack. Warm, flaky pastry — honestly, that was one of my favorite parts of this Gozo buggy tour day trip.

The inland sea at Dwejra looked almost fake, that blue-green circle tucked behind cliffs. We parked for a bit just watching tiny boats drift through the archway out into open Mediterranean. Someone tried to skip stones but mostly we just sat there listening to gulls and waves slapping against Fungus Rock. There was a quiet moment where nobody said anything — not even Mario — and I still think about that silence sometimes.

After all that dust and sunburn (should’ve brought more sunscreen), getting on the Yippee boat for Comino felt like switching worlds. The captain swung us past caves cut right into pale rock — cool air blowing in your face after all that heat. When we finally stopped at Blue Lagoon, people basically fell off the boat trying to get into that clear water. It’s busy but somehow you don’t mind; you float on your back looking up at sky and cliffs and forget you have anywhere else to be.
