What’s the experience like?

I spotted my name on a sign before I even cleared the sliding doors at Cancun airport — kind of surreal after a long flight. The driver, Luis, waved and grinned like he’d been waiting for an old friend. He spoke English way better than my Spanish (I tried “buenas tardes” anyway — he nodded politely). There was this humid, salty breeze outside, and I remember thinking how different it smelled from home. Not bad, just… tropical.

The van was spotless and cool inside — honestly, that first blast of AC felt like a reward. Luis helped with bags without making it awkward. He told me about his favorite taco spot in downtown Cancun (I wrote it down but probably lost the note). We messaged back and forth on WhatsApp before landing so I didn’t have to hunt around or worry about roaming charges. That little detail made things less stressful than I expected.

Driving through Cancun, I watched palm trees flick past the window while Luis pointed out which resorts were new and which ones locals actually liked. He laughed when I mispronounced “Xcaret” (I still don’t get it right). The whole thing was just easy — no lines, no confusion, just straight to the hotel door. On the way back to the airport a few days later, he remembered my name and asked if I ever found that taco place. I hadn’t — next time maybe.
