What’s the experience like?

“Wait, is that the Atlas Mountains?” I shouted over the engine, dust swirling around us as we bounced along the rocky tracks of the Agafay Desert. Our guide, Youssef, just grinned and nodded — I think he’s used to city folks being surprised by how wild it feels out here, barely 40 minutes from Marrakech. The air tasted dry and sharp, but not unpleasant. My hands were already gritty from the handlebars and honestly, I didn’t expect to feel so awake this early.

We stopped somewhere that looked like nowhere — just pale stones, soft hills, and this silence you don’t get in the city. Youssef pointed out some tiny green shoots poking through cracks (I forget what he called them), and then we all tried to take photos but mostly just laughed at each other’s helmet hair. The quad bikes were easier than I thought after a few minutes — though my left thumb still aches a bit. That view though… still sticks with me.

The best part wasn’t even the ride; it was when we pulled up at a small house for mint tea. A woman greeted us with a shy smile and poured tea that smelled like fresh leaves and sugar — way sweeter than I make it at home. We sat on low cushions while her kids peeked in from outside. There was this easy warmth between everyone, even though my French is terrible (and my Arabic is worse). After about fifteen minutes, we headed back into the sun, feeling oddly lighter. It’s not what I pictured when I searched for a quad bike tour in Agafay Desert — somehow quieter and more real.
