What’s the experience like?

I almost dropped my phone when our skipper ducked under that first low arch — I mean, I knew the Ponta da Piedade caves were tight, but you don’t really get it until you’re squinting at sunlight through a crack in the rock. The boat itself felt old-school, painted bright blue and yellow, and João (our guide) joked he’s been steering these waters since before smartphones. We’d only been out maybe ten minutes when João slowed down to let us drift inside one of the bigger grottos. It got quiet all of a sudden — just the creak of wood and someone’s flip-flop squeaking against fiberglass. I tried to say “Ponta da Piedade” in Portuguese and totally butchered it; João laughed and told me to stick with English for now. He showed us how every trip is different depending on tides, which honestly made it feel less like a tour and more like we were sneaking into nature’s living room.
