What’s the experience like?

I’ll be honest, I almost missed my driver at Barcelona airport because I was too busy gawking at the ceiling art near arrivals. My name was on a sign, though — big enough that even after a long flight and zero sleep, I spotted it. The driver (Jordi, he said) gave me this little nod like we were already in on something together. He didn’t rush me when my suitcase wheel jammed, just waited and chatted about how late flights are basically normal here. It felt… unhurried, which is rare for airports.

The car smelled faintly of lemon — not fake air freshener, more like someone had actually cleaned it that morning. Jordi asked if I wanted to see anything on the way into Barcelona city center or just head straight to my hotel. I tried out my rusty Spanish (“¿Podemos pasar por Plaça d’Espanya?”) and he grinned — said most people go straight for La Rambla but Espanya’s his favorite for sunsets. We talked about football (he’s Barça all the way), and he pointed out where locals grab coffee if you land early. The drive was maybe 25 minutes? Traffic wasn’t bad, but he said it can double during festivals.

He checked my flight number before we left — apparently they always track delays so nobody gets stranded waiting around. There was this moment when we crossed over Gran Via and the city lights started flickering through the window; I remember feeling suddenly awake again, like okay, now I’m really here. Not sure why that sticks with me but it does.
