What’s the experience like?

“Don’t drop the paddle!” That’s what our instructor, Marta, called out as I wobbled onto the board just off San Antonio. The water was that weirdly clear blue — you know the kind that almost looks fake in photos? She grinned and showed us how to stand up without face-planting (I still nearly did). The sun was already warm even though it wasn’t noon yet, and I could smell sunscreen mixing with sea spray. There were only six of us on the boat — a couple from Valencia, two British friends, me and my partner. It felt easygoing right away.

Marta’s from Ibiza and she told stories about these hidden coves we’d never have found on our own. We paddled for about an hour along the coast — not fast or anything, just drifting past rocks and little caves while someone’s Bluetooth speaker played quietly behind us. At one point I looked down and saw tiny silver fish darting under my board; I probably lost focus for too long because I ended up kneeling for the last stretch. Nobody cared.

Snorkeling after that felt like a reward — cool water on sun-warmed skin, salty hair sticking to my cheeks. Our guide handed out masks and pointed out where to look for starfish (I didn’t see one but someone else did). There was this moment when everyone got quiet underwater except for the clicking sound of pebbles shifting below us. On the way back toward port, they passed around cold drinks and cut-up watermelon. I sat at the bow with sticky fingers and wind in my face, thinking how different Ibiza feels from out here — softer somehow.
