What’s the experience like?

We stepped onto the ecoyacht at Los Cristianos, sun already warming my shoulders, and I could smell sunscreen mixing with salt air — that sticky mix you get on boats. Our guide Elena had this easy laugh; she handed out tips about spotting pilot whales before we’d even left the dock. The boat felt steady underfoot (I get seasick sometimes but honestly, it was fine), and there was this low hum from the engine as we glided out past Palm Mar. Everyone kept craning their necks — I guess nobody wants to be the one who misses the first whale.

About twenty minutes in, Elena pointed off starboard and sure enough, there they were — two dark shapes surfacing in slow motion. I swear I held my breath. You could hear them exhale, sharp and close, then nothing but water slapping hull and someone’s camera clicking too fast. Dolphins showed up too, darting around like they were late for something. The guide told us about how the propellers are tucked safely inside the hull so it doesn’t mess with marine life; that stuck with me more than I expected.

We cruised along the coast for a while — passed this cave everyone calls “the cave of love” (Elena winked when she said it). Then came the swim stop. The water was colder than I thought it’d be but so clear you could see all the way down. A couple of us jumped in right away; I hesitated but finally just went for it. Floating there with the cliffs behind me and Tenerife stretched out in the haze… I still think about that feeling sometimes when things get noisy back home.
