What’s the experience like?

The arrivals hall at Istanbul Airport is always buzzing—families, business travelers, the odd backpacker with a giant rucksack. I spotted my greeter right away, holding a sign with my name near the sliding doors. He gave me a quick nod and an easy smile, then helped me wrangle my suitcase (which had already lost a wheel somewhere between Frankfurt and here). We chatted about the weather—humid but not too hot for June—and he led me down to the transportation floor. It’s two levels below arrivals, so you skip the chaos outside.

My driver was already waiting by a shiny black van—looked freshly cleaned, and you could still smell that lemony disinfectant they use here. He double-checked my destination in Taksim before we set off. No awkward explanations or language mix-ups; he spoke clear English and even pointed out where locals grab simit bread on the way into town. The ride itself was smooth—bottled water ready in the cupholder, WiFi actually worked (I managed to text my hotel), and there were snacks tucked in the side pocket. Traffic can be unpredictable in Istanbul, but our driver seemed to know every shortcut through Şişli and past Dolapdere. When we pulled up near Istiklal Avenue, he hopped out first to help with my bags and wished me a good stay—felt more like being dropped off by a friend than a taxi.
