What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed at the Pioneer Saloon was the smell — kind of old wood mixed with something sweet, maybe whiskey? Our guide, Mike, waved us in and handed out these little ghost-hunting gadgets. I had no clue how to use mine (EMF something?), but he explained it with this dry humor that made everyone relax. We sat down for sandwiches and chips — nothing fancy, but honestly, it felt right for a place like this. There’s a bullet hole in the wall near our table, which Mike said was “the real deal.” I kept glancing at it while he told us about the miner who supposedly never left. The light outside was already turning that weird desert gold.

After dinner we stepped out into the cool air — you could hear gravel crunching under boots and someone’s laugh echoing from inside. Walking through Goodsprings at night is… odd. It’s quiet but not peaceful, if that makes sense. We wandered past abandoned buildings with our gear (I still don’t know if my meter was working or if I just wanted it to be), and stopped at the cemetery where Mike got serious for a second: “Some folks here have stories they’re not done telling.” He let us try asking questions out loud — I felt silly at first, but then someone’s flashlight flickered and yeah, nerves kicked in.

On the drive back to Las Vegas we passed by those Seven Magic Mountains — all neon against the dark desert. We didn’t stop, just watched them blur by. I kept thinking about that moment in the cemetery when everything went quiet except for wind in the sagebrush. Not sure if I believe in ghosts now or not. But there’s something about Goodsprings that sticks with you longer than you expect.
