What’s the experience like?

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect when we signed up for this Walking Dead escape room in Myrtle Beach — I’m not exactly the puzzle master of the group. But as soon as that heavy door clicked shut behind us, it got real fast. The air had this weird mix of old wood and something metallic (maybe just my nerves?). Our local game master grinned through the glass and said, “You’ve got one hour — don’t let the zombies catch you.” No pressure, right?

We started hunting for clues, everyone talking over each other and tripping on props (I definitely knocked over a fake can of beans at one point). The puzzles weren’t just locks — some were hidden in these odd places or needed us to actually work together, which was both hilarious and kind of stressful. At one point, my friend tried to decode a message out loud and totally butchered it; even our guide outside laughed. You could hear muffled zombie groans piped in through speakers every few minutes — cheesy but honestly it made me jump more than once.

By the last ten minutes, we were sweating (or maybe that was just me), scrambling to crack the final code before time ran out. There’s this weird thrill when you’re racing a clock with your friends — I still think about how my hands shook trying to fit the last key in. We didn’t make it out before the buzzer, but we got close enough that we high-fived anyway. If you’re looking for something different to do with a group near Myrtle Beach, this escape room is worth an hour of your day. Just don’t ask me to lead next time.
