What’s the experience like?

First thing I noticed stepping out of Louis Armstrong airport was the thick, warm air — kind of sweet, even at 8am. Our driver, Marcus, was already waiting by the curb holding a little sign with my name (I always feel awkward about that but it’s actually helpful when you’re tired). He greeted us with this easy Southern drawl and took my bag before I could even fumble for it. The car smelled faintly of leather and something citrusy — maybe those wipes they use? Anyway, it felt clean and cool inside, which was honestly all I wanted after that flight.

I’d booked this private airport transfer from New Orleans because last time we tried to get an Uber at MSY it took forever and I just didn’t want to deal with that again. Marcus tracked our flight so he was early even though our plane landed ahead of schedule. He asked if we needed to make any stops on the way (we didn’t), then handed me a bottle of water and pointed out the Wi-Fi password stuck on the back of the seat. My partner immediately started streaming music — apparently there’s a playlist just for New Orleans arrivals? Didn’t expect that. We passed by some shotgun houses painted every color you can think of; Marcus told us which neighborhoods were best for food and where not to park if you don’t want a ticket.

The ride itself was smooth — no weird detours or anything — and honestly I barely noticed how long it took because we were busy chatting about po’boys and jazz bars. There was this moment when we hit Canal Street and sunlight bounced off all the old streetcars; I still think about that view. When we got to our hotel he helped unload everything (even my annoyingly heavy duffel) and gave us a few restaurant tips scribbled on a receipt. Not sure if that’s standard but it made me smile.
