What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed was how quiet it felt inside the car — after dragging my suitcase through JFK’s arrivals, that hush was almost weirdly soothing. Our driver, Carlos, just nodded and took my bag like he’d done it a thousand times (probably has). I’d barely buckled up before we were gliding out onto the expressway. There’s something about watching Queens blur past from a cool leather seat that makes you forget you’re even in New York traffic for a second.

I kept thinking I’d have to give directions or check my phone every five minutes, but nope — Carlos already had the route up on his screen. He offered me a bottle of water (I didn’t realize how thirsty I was) and pointed out that there was WiFi if I needed to work or text home. The city outside looked kind of washed out from last night’s rain, but inside it was all soft air-conditioning and that faint new-car smell. At one point he asked if I wanted music or silence; honestly, I just needed a minute to zone out.

We hit a little traffic near Midtown — what else is new? — but Carlos seemed unfazed, just chatting about how dispatch keeps an eye on all the drivers so nobody gets stuck too long. He told me they get updates in real time if there’s an accident or roadwork. I liked knowing someone else was handling all that. When we pulled up at my hotel, he helped with my bag again and said “Welcome to New York” like he actually meant it. That stuck with me more than I expected.
