What’s the experience like?

We were already laughing before we even sat down—someone in the front row tried to balance their popcorn on their knee and dropped half of it. Jonathan (the magician himself) just grinned and tossed them another bag without missing a beat. The place isn’t big—maybe 40 seats?—so you can actually see every eyebrow raise and card flick. I didn’t expect to feel so much like part of the act. At one point, he asked my niece to pick a card, and she froze up so hard that Jonathan started making up a story about “the world’s slowest magician’s assistant.” She still talks about it.

The whole night had this weirdly warm vibe—like being at someone’s house party, but with better tricks and less awkward small talk. You could bring your own drinks (we saw everything from wine coolers to Dr Pepper), and there were free sodas and popcorn on a side table if you forgot. There was this moment when Jonathan did some trick with a lemon (I won’t spoil it), and the smell of citrus hit me right as everyone gasped. It sounds silly, but I think that’s when I realized how different it is seeing magic up close instead of on a screen.

I liked that families were there—kids giggling at jokes that somehow went over their heads but still made them laugh anyway. And nobody seemed worried about being picked on or embarrassed; Jonathan has this way of making even shy people feel in on the joke. The show ran about 90 minutes, which felt just right—not rushed but not dragging either. Free parking was nice too since downtown OKC can be a pain sometimes. I keep thinking about how easy it was to forget my phone for a while, which almost never happens these days.
