Summary

Peak Tram rides, temple incense, dim sum and city stories in Hong Kong

You’ll weave through Hong Kong’s buzzing streets on foot and by tram, tasting dim sum lunch and local snacks along the way. Visit Man Mo Temple’s incense-filled halls, ride the historic Peak Tram for sweeping harbour views, and chat with your guide over milk tea. Every corner offers something new—sometimes surprising, always real.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect the Central–Mid-Levels Escalator to go on forever—felt like a moving sidewalk for city life. Our guide (her name was Ada) pointed out tiny noodle shops tucked under neon signs, and I caught this whiff of dried seafood as we reached Sheung Wan. Not my usual breakfast smell, but somehow it fit. Ada laughed when I asked about the recipe for those dried scallops—she promised to show us later, and she did.

We ducked into Man Mo Temple just as the coils of incense were burning thick above our heads. It was quieter than I thought it’d be; only the soft clink of coins and a few murmured prayers. The light inside made everything gold and smoky. I tried to read one of the fortune sticks (no luck), but Ada explained how people come here before exams or big decisions—felt oddly comforting even though I’m not superstitious.

Lunch was dim sum in a place that looked plain from outside but had these old-school waiters who seemed to know everyone. The shrimp dumplings were slippery and hot—I burned my tongue because I got impatient (worth it). Someone handed me an egg tart right after, flaky and warm, and then milk tea so strong it nearly woke me up for good. We wandered Cat Street after that—antiques everywhere, dusty fans spinning slow overhead—and then hopped on the Peak Tram with skip-the-line tickets. The tram creaked up the hill fast enough to make my stomach flip. That first glimpse of Victoria Harbour at the top… I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.
