What’s the experience like?

We started off with a quick pick-up right at our hotel—no waiting around for big groups or crowded vans. Our driver was friendly and chatted about the city as we climbed up into the hills east of Medellín. The air changed fast; you could actually smell eucalyptus as we got higher. We made a short stop at Las Palmas viewpoint, which honestly surprised me. From up there, you see just how massive Medellín really is, all tucked between green mountains. Our guide explained why locals call it the "Money Cup"—the city sits in this deep bowl surrounded by peaks. It’s one of those spots where you can hear birds more than cars, even though the city’s right below.

The drive out to the ranch took us past small farms and fields dotted with cows and bright flowers I didn’t recognize. Once we arrived, the ATVs were lined up and ready—looked intimidating at first, but after a quick run-through from our bilingual guide (who actually grew up nearby), it felt easy enough to handle. The ride itself? Muddy tracks, rocky bits, and some steep climbs that got my heart going. We zipped through patches of forest where it smelled like wet earth and wildflowers, then out into open stretches with crazy wide views of the countryside. The weather was classic Medellín—warm sun one minute, a cool breeze the next. I was glad I brought an extra layer since clouds roll in fast here.

After about 90 minutes on the trails (they let us set our own pace—no pressure to rush), we had time to relax back at the ranch with some snacks before heading back down to Medellín. Our driver dropped us off wherever we wanted in El Poblado, which made things super easy. If you’re looking for something outside the usual city tours—and want to see what’s really beyond those mountains—this is worth it.
