“Don’t worry, even my grandma could paddle this bit,” Luka grinned as he handed me a helmet, his accent soft but the joke landing. I’d barely zipped up my life jacket before the river smell hit—kind of green and cold, like wet stones after rain. They give you everything—life jackets, swimming shoes (which are weirdly comfy), even neoprene suits if it’s chilly. We stopped for snacks on a sunny rock halfway through, legs dangling in the water while someone tried (and failed) to open their waterproof barrel without dropping an apple in. The whole thing took about four hours but didn’t feel rushed at all… I still think about that stretch where the sun hit the canyon walls just right and made everything glow greenish-gold.
