What’s the experience like?

“Don’t worry, I’ll be right there even if your plane’s late,” our driver texted the night before we landed in Zagreb. I’d never had someone message me in advance like that for an airport transfer — honestly, it took some of the edge off those weird pre-arrival nerves. The air outside was that chilly spring kind that wakes you up fast after a long flight. We found him waiting just past arrivals, holding a sign with my name (spelled right, which always feels like good luck).

I noticed he’d already grabbed a bottle of water for us and pointed out where to find the free WiFi password stuck on the back of the seat. It’s funny how little things — like not having to ask for help with bags or fumble around for a signal — end up feeling huge when you’re tired. He chatted about his favorite bakery near the city center while we drove; I tried repeating the name and probably butchered it because he laughed but still wrote it down for me. The ride was smooth and quiet except for a few bursts of laughter when I asked about Croatian coffee habits (apparently it’s an art form here).

The whole thing from airport to hotel took maybe half an hour? Hard to say exactly — I was watching the city lights flicker through the window and kind of lost track. He helped unload our bags at the curb and didn’t rush us off, just wished us a good stay and said if we needed anything else during our time in Zagreb, just call. There’s something about arriving somewhere new and having even one person treat you like you’re not just passing through.
