What’s the experience like?

We landed in Punta Cana after a long flight, honestly just wanting to get out of the airport and breathe. The drive toward Cap Cana felt quiet at first, except for Luis humming along to merengue on the radio. He pointed out a stretch of beach through the window—said locals go there at sunrise when it’s empty. I tried asking him about Dominican baseball teams (my Spanish is tragic), which made him laugh so hard he almost missed our turnoff. The roads were smoother than I expected; I’d read horror stories online but it was just easy—no stress, no haggling with taxis or figuring out who’s legit. Air conditioning blasting, windows fogged up a bit from the humidity outside.

I kept watching palm trees flick past while my partner dozed off beside me. It was only about 25 minutes to our hotel in Bavaro but felt slower—in a good way, like we’d left all that airport noise behind. Luis checked if we needed anything else before we got out (water? directions?), then handed us our bags with this little nod that said “you’re good now.” Not flashy or over-the-top—just simple and honest service that made arriving here feel safe and kind of personal.
