What’s the experience like?

We stepped onto the boat at Bávaro Beach with music already thumping—honestly, I could feel it in my chest before we even left the dock. Our guide, Maria, handed us fruity drinks right away (I still don’t know what was in mine but it tasted like vacation). The sun was sharp but there was this salty breeze that kept everything just cool enough. Everyone started loosening up as soon as the DJ dropped some old-school hip hop. I’m not much of a dancer but somehow you just end up moving anyway.

As we cruised out over that crazy-blue Caribbean water, people were laughing and trying to shout over the music. The crew—especially José—kept pouring drinks and joking around with everyone. At one point he tried to teach us a merengue step; I tripped over my own feet and he just laughed, “Don’t worry amigo, more rum helps!” We stopped near Cabeza de Toro for snorkeling. I hesitated getting in (the water looked almost too perfect) but ended up floating there watching little silver fish dart around. It was quieter under the surface than I expected.

The best bit? When we anchored at this shallow natural pool where everyone just waded around with their cups, music echoing over the water. Someone started a dance-off on the deck—no one cared who won. The whole thing felt kind of messy and free in a good way. On the ride back, sunburned and sticky from saltwater, I caught myself grinning for no reason at all. There’s something about being out there with strangers who suddenly feel like friends—I still think about that view back toward Punta Cana as we turned for shore.
