What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect to feel so relieved just seeing my name on a sign outside Punta Cana Airport. After the usual shuffle through customs, I spotted our driver right in front of Jetlag Bar (Terminal A)—honestly, it felt like someone waiting for family. He smiled and waved, which helped because my Spanish is basically nonexistent. The air outside was thick and warm, but inside the van it was cool—like a little bubble away from the airport noise. There was WiFi too, which I didn’t think I’d care about until I realized I could text home that we’d landed safe.

Our driver (I think his name was Carlos?) helped with bags and asked if we needed anything before heading out. He mentioned we could’ve messaged on WhatsApp when we landed—good tip for next time. The drive from Punta Cana to Bavaro isn’t long, maybe 25 minutes or so, but it’s enough to watch palm trees flick past and get used to the way the light feels different here. At one point he pointed out a hotel he liked for its music nights—made me wish we had more time just to stop somewhere random.

What stuck with me most wasn’t really the ride itself—it was how simple everything felt after a day of airports and delays. No haggling or waiting around for taxis, just straight into a clean van with someone who seemed genuinely glad we made it. That first breath of Caribbean air mixed with van AC… still kind of lingers when I think about arriving in Bavaro.
