What’s the experience like?

Sand crunches under your shoes as you step out of the van and catch your first real glimpse of the Giza Pyramids. They’re bigger than any photo could show—honestly, I didn’t expect to feel so tiny standing there. Our guide, Ahmed, handed out cold water bottles (trust me, you’ll want them if you visit in summer) and shared a story about the workers who built these giants. The air smelled faintly of dust and something sweet—maybe from the tea vendor who sets up his cart near the Sphinx.

We had plenty of time to wander around, snap photos, and even just sit for a minute to let it all sink in. Ahmed pointed out the best angle for a pyramid selfie—turns out it’s not where the crowds gather. Later, we drove over to Sakkara. The Step Pyramid looks rougher than Giza’s but feels even older somehow. There’s this quietness around Sakkara that I didn’t expect; only the sound of birds and the occasional distant donkey bray. Lunch was simple but good—grilled chicken and rice at a small spot locals use (I wish I remembered the name). The day finished at Memphis, where statues lie half-buried in the sand and you can actually touch some of the stones.
