What’s the experience like?

“You’ll hear your own voice bounce back here—like the mountain’s talking to you,” our guide Khaled grinned, waving us off the bikes at Echo Mountain. He wasn’t kidding. I shouted something silly (don’t ask), and the sound echoed right back, sharper than I expected. The air smelled like dust and wild herbs, and my hands were still buzzing from gripping the quad bike over all those bumpy tracks. Sinai light is different—kind of golden but not soft, if that makes sense.

The ride out from Sharm El Sheikh was early (I picked sunrise because I’m stubborn about crowds), and honestly, I was groggy until we hit the open sand. The quad bikes are loud but weirdly freeing—just you, the engine, and these endless ripples of orange sand. At one point my scarf almost blew off; Khaled laughed and helped me tie it tighter (“Bedouin style!”). We stopped for photos near some crazy rock shapes—I don’t even know what to call them—and he explained how locals use certain plants for tea or medicine. It’s those little things that stick with you.

After Echo Mountain, we rolled into this Bedouin camp where everything slowed down. There was sweet herbal tea in tiny glasses (hotter than expected), camels chewing lazily nearby. My camel was called Lulu—she looked unimpressed with me but didn’t complain as we plodded through the sand. Riding a camel is less graceful than it looks in photos by the way; my legs felt wobbly after. But there’s something about seeing Sinai from up high like that… I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.
