What’s the experience like?

I’ll be honest, I almost bailed on this Monaco & Eze day trip from Cannes because I thought it’d just be fancy cars and crowds. But the morning started with our guide, Luc, making us laugh about his failed attempts at Parisian fashion—he wore sneakers anyway. The drive up the cliff roads was quiet except for the wind smacking against the van windows and someone in the back humming. When we reached Eze, that first step onto cobblestones felt like stepping into a postcard, but with a bit more grit underfoot than I expected. There was this smell—rosemary or maybe thyme?—floating around the old stones.

The Fragonard perfumery tour was actually way less stuffy than I’d imagined. Our guide inside (her name was Camille) let us sniff everything, even things she said “don’t usually go together.” I totally messed up trying to describe one scent in French; Camille just grinned and handed me another bottle. After that, wandering through Eze felt like being in some kind of eagle’s nest above the sea. You could see all the way to Italy if you squinted past the haze. At one point a local man nodded at me as he watered his window plants—no idea what he thought of us tourists poking around.

Monaco hit different—it’s so polished it almost feels unreal. We had free time in the old town near the Prince’s Palace, where kids were playing football right under these grand stone arches. Grace Kelly’s grave is there too; people left little white flowers and it was strangely quiet for such a busy place. Luc pointed out where the Formula 1 drivers take that sharp corner—I tried to imagine racing through those streets but honestly, I’d probably stall out halfway. We ended up at Café de Paris watching people who looked like they belonged in magazines sip espresso under perfect awnings. And yeah, there were yachts bigger than my apartment building bobbing in the harbor.
