What’s the experience like?

Delhi hit me right away—noisy, alive, a mix of old alleys and shiny new buildings. Our guide, Anil, met us just outside the airport with a big grin and a bottle of cold water (needed it—the air felt thick even at 9am). We zipped past India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan in an air-conditioned car. At Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, I caught the scent of fresh chapati drifting from the langar kitchen. Later, we wandered through Chandni Chowk’s maze—scooters honking, vendors calling out for samosas. The Red Fort loomed red and massive against the sky. Humayun’s Tomb was quieter; birds flitted between the arches while we listened to stories about Mughal emperors under the shade of old neem trees.

The drive to Agra took about four hours—long enough for a nap and some roadside chai. The Taj Mahal at sunrise is something else. Mist hung low over the gardens; our guide timed it so we arrived just as the marble started to glow pink. There were monkeys on the walls at Mehtab Bagh across the river—one tried to swipe my water bottle! Agra Fort felt like a maze inside; you could almost hear echoes from centuries ago. We stopped by Kalakriti Center for a quick peek at local crafts before heading out.

Jaipur was all color—pink buildings everywhere and rickshaws zipping past painted elephants. Amer Fort sits up on a hill; we rode up in a jeep (walking would’ve been tough in that heat). From the ramparts you see all of Jaipur spread below. Hawa Mahal looks delicate but up close it’s solid stonework—tiny windows everywhere for royal women to watch street life unseen. Bapu Bazaar was packed with bangles and fabrics; I lost track of time haggling over a scarf. Jantar Mantar’s giant sundials really work—the guide showed us how to read them using just the sun’s shadow. Evenings cooled off fast; locals gathered at Jal Mahal lakefront for snacks and gossip as dusk settled in.
