What’s the experience like?

We were already out before the first light cracked over the Ganges, camera straps digging into our shoulders. Our guide waved us down a narrow alley where incense mixed with the smell of wet stone—somehow both sharp and sweet. He nodded to a group of sadhus wrapped in faded orange cloth, their faces streaked with ash. They didn’t flinch as we raised our cameras; it was clear our fixer had built real trust here.

Later, we found ourselves at the edge of Manikarnika Ghat. The air was thick and warm, carrying a low hum from chanting families and the steady crackle of burning wood. Our guide kept his voice low, explaining each ritual without rushing us or making things awkward. I noticed how he always asked permission before we took photos—locals seemed to appreciate that, and so did I.

By midday, we’d ducked into a wrestling school where boys slapped dusty mats and coaches barked in Hindi. The afternoon sun made everything shimmer—saris drying by the river, marigold petals at the flower bazaar, even the laundry lines at Dhobi Ghat. Every spot felt like a new story waiting to be told through my lens, and honestly, I wouldn’t have found half these places on my own.
