What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect to feel so quiet just watching Positano slip away behind us. The houses looked like they were stacked by hand, all pastel and stubborn against the cliffs — honestly, it made me wonder how anyone ever moves furniture in or out of those places. Our captain, Luca, waved to someone onshore (I think he knew half the town), then turned up some old Italian music that sounded scratchy but perfect for the moment. There were only about ten of us on the boat — enough for a little laughter but not so many you felt crowded.

The sea had that late afternoon smell — saltier than usual, almost metallic. We drifted past Praiano, which I’d only seen from above before. From the water it’s quieter, more private somehow. Someone asked Luca about the tiny beaches tucked into the rocks; he shrugged and said locals swim there when nobody’s looking. I tried a tarallo (those crunchy little bread rings) with my prosecco and immediately got crumbs everywhere — no regrets though.

When we reached Furore Fjord, I was surprised by how narrow and deep it felt; the cliffs almost swallowed up our voices. The sun hit the water just right and suddenly everyone was taking photos at once. Luca poured another round and played something softer — not sure what it was, but it made me want to just sit there forever. Swimming wasn’t allowed (which honestly was fine by me — water looked cold), so we just floated for a while. On the way back to Positano I noticed my hair smelled like sea spray and prosecco, which isn’t a bad souvenir if you ask me.
