What’s the experience like?

I still remember the way the river smelled—kind of sweet and earthy—when we first climbed onto the bamboo raft outside Montego Bay. The guide, Chris, had this easy laugh that made me feel like I’d known him for ages. He pointed out little birds darting between the mangroves while I trailed my hand in the cool water. Honestly, I thought bamboo rafting would be touristy but it was just…quiet. Except for when Chris let me try steering and I almost spun us into a bush (he just grinned and said “no worries”).

After that, everything sped up. The ATV ride was loud and muddy—my shoes are probably never going to be the same. We tore through these winding trails under trees so thick you could barely see sunlight in spots. Our guide kept stopping to show us weird plants or tell stories about old sugar plantations nearby; I didn’t catch every word over the engine noise but that’s half the fun. The zipline came next and my hands were shaking a bit before I jumped—there’s always that second where your stomach drops right before you let go.

I didn’t expect to like horseback riding as much as I did. My horse was called Marley (of course) and he kept trying to nibble leaves while we walked along this quiet path by the water. It was slow and kind of peaceful after all the adrenaline stuff earlier. By late afternoon we ended up at Rick’s Café—I’d seen videos of people cliff-diving there but seeing it in real life is something else. The music was loud, everyone cheering on strangers jumping off rocks into the sea. Sunset turned everything gold for a few minutes; I still think about that view sometimes when things get noisy back home.
