What’s the experience like?

We rolled out of Negril early—still half asleep, honestly—and before I knew it, we were bumping down a dirt track into this wild patch called Bambuza. The air was thick and green, if that makes sense; you could smell wet earth and something sweet from the trees. Our guide, Marlon, grinned like he’d seen this a thousand times but still loved it. He handed us helmets for the ATVs first. I stalled mine twice (don’t judge), but nobody cared—Marlon just laughed and told me to “feel the rhythm.” It worked. The trail twisted past bamboo so tall it creaked when the wind hit it. My shirt got splashed with mud and I didn’t even mind.

After the ATVs, we swapped wheels for hooves. The horses were calm—mine was called Pepper—and we wandered through a quieter part of the land. You could hear water somewhere nearby, maybe a river or just rain left in the leaves. There was this moment where Pepper stopped to sniff at some wildflowers and I caught Marlon humming an old reggae tune under his breath. It felt like time slowed down for a second there.

Then came the zipline—I’m not usually into heights but everyone else was already clipping in so I just went for it. Flying above those lazy rivers and seeing all that tangled green below… my heart was pounding but also weirdly peaceful? When I landed, my hands were shaking but I couldn’t stop smiling. We finished muddy and happy (and hungry), just sort of hanging around swapping stories with Marlon about growing up near Negril. Even now, sometimes I catch myself thinking about that bamboo light filtering down while we waited our turn on the line.
