What’s the experience like?

It’s that weird limbo after landing at Cancún Airport—humid air hits you, luggage wheels clack on the tiles, and there’s this low buzz of people calling out names. I spotted my own name on a sign (always feels a bit surreal) and a guy in a blue shirt grinned and waved me over. He switched between English and Spanish so smoothly it made me wish I’d practiced more on Duolingo. He asked about my flight, checked my details, then led me past the crowds toward the parking area—honestly, I was just relieved not to be herded onto some packed shuttle.

The van was spotless and cool inside—air conditioning set just right, not freezing like some places do it. There was this faint citrusy smell, maybe from one of those little hanging things? Anyway, we pulled away from the chaos of the airport and suddenly everything felt quieter. My driver, Armando, chatted about Playa del Carmen—he said traffic can be wild but today we got lucky. The drive itself is about an hour or so; I kept glancing out at the flashes of jungle and those roadside stands selling coconuts (I always want to stop but never do). If you’ve ever done the shared shuttle thing before… this is nothing like that. No random stops or awkward small talk with strangers.

On the way back to Cancún Airport a few days later, pickup was right on time outside my hotel lobby.
