What’s the experience like?

“You sure this is just for us?” I asked as the limo pulled up outside our hotel in Cancun. The driver — I think his name was Arturo — just grinned and opened the door like he’d heard that question a hundred times. Inside, it smelled faintly of citrus and something clean (not that chemical stuff), and the seats were softer than I expected. We’d barely sat down before my friend started fiddling with the sunroof controls. It was early but warm already, and the AC felt like a small mercy.

I didn’t realize how much I needed that cold Corona until it was in my hand. There’s something about drinking beer at 9am on vacation that feels both wrong and perfectly right. Arturo handed over chilled bottles of water too — he even offered us these little scented towels that honestly made me feel more awake than coffee would’ve. He told us he’s been driving this route for years, always keeping an eye on traffic so we wouldn’t stress about missing our flight. I liked hearing him talk about his favorite taco stand near the airport (wish we’d had time to stop).

The drive itself was smooth — not much chatter after a while, just the low hum of the road and some music playing quietly from somewhere up front. My friend tried to get the WiFi working for one last round of frantic photo uploads; it actually worked better than our hotel’s did all week. I watched palm trees flick past the window and tried to memorize how bright everything looked in that morning light. Funny how leaving can feel almost as good as arriving when you’re not crammed into a shuttle with strangers.
