What’s the experience like?

I’ll never forget that first whoosh down the waterslide — sun in my eyes, salt spray everywhere, and someone cheering from the upper deck (maybe for me, maybe just for the next round of margaritas). We’d barely left the Puerto Vallarta marina when our captain, Luis, grinned and told us to kick off our shoes. The deck felt warm underfoot. I didn’t expect to feel so relaxed so quickly — or to laugh this much before noon.

The ChicaFun 1 trimaran is bigger than it looks in photos. Two decks, cushions everywhere, shade if you want it. Our crew kept popping up with guacamole and blue corn chips — still warm somehow — and drinks that tasted like vacation. We cruised along Banderas Bay with music playing low (someone’s playlist, not generic stuff) while pelicans skimmed the water beside us. At Los Arcos, we grabbed snorkel gear and paddled out; the water was clear enough to see schools of fish darting past your hands. I tried to pronounce “Majahuitas” right and Li laughed at me — probably deserved.

Lunch was fajitas from their kitchen (worth the extra pesos), eaten sitting cross-legged on the bow while we watched another group try paddleboarding for the first time. There’s something about eating with your hands when you’re salty from swimming that makes food taste better. Later, I found myself stretched out on a splash net over open water, half-listening to stories from one of the crew about growing up in Yelapa. The sun kept shifting behind clouds but it never got cold — just softer light and a breeze that smelled faintly like limes.

I still think about that view back toward Puerto Vallarta as we headed home — city lights starting to flicker on, everyone a little quieter after all the laughter.
