Summary

Silent tuk tuk ride through Kotor villages local stories & bay views

You’ll ride a silent electric tuk tuk along Montenegro’s Boka Bay with a local guide, stopping at Kotor Old Town, hearing stories at Tre Sorelle Palace, exploring Our Lady’s Temple in Prcanj, pausing for coffee or ice cream in Porto Montenegro, and soaking up those shifting bay views. It’s about slowing down and letting the place get under your skin.

experience

What’s the experience like?

We’d barely stepped off the curb near Kotor Old Town when our driver, Jovan, grinned and waved us over to his electric tuk tuk. He handed me a little piece of candied orange peel (“for luck,” he said) before we zipped off. The thing was so quiet I could actually hear the gulls squabbling overhead and someone playing accordion somewhere behind the city walls. It felt weirdly intimate—like being let in on a local secret instead of just passing through.

The road hugged Boka Bay so close I could smell salt and wild fennel. Jovan slowed down by Tre Sorelle Palace and told us this story about three sisters who waited for sailors that never came back—he shrugged at the end like he didn’t quite buy it himself. Through Muo and then Prcanj, he pointed out old stone houses with green shutters, laundry flapping between them like flags. We stopped at Our Lady’s Temple, which is bigger than you’d expect for such a small place. Inside it was cool and echoey; my shoes squeaked embarrassingly loud on the marble floor (Jovan pretended not to notice).

Somewhere around Verige straight, we pulled over for what Jovan called “the postcard spot.” The view really did look painted—Perast’s islands floating out there, boats gliding past so slowly they almost seemed stuck in time. I tried to take a photo but honestly it didn’t do it justice. After that we rolled into Porto Montenegro where everyone looked much fancier than me in my dusty sneakers. I got an ice cream anyway and sat by the water while Jovan chatted with another driver about football scores.

On the way back above Kotor, we stopped again—this time just to sit quietly and watch the light shift over the bay. There was this moment where nobody said anything at all, which I still think about sometimes. If you’re looking for something loud or fast-paced, this isn’t it—but if you want to feel like you’re part of the place for a few hours… well, yeah.
