What’s the experience like?

“You’re definitely not from here,” Kuba grinned, handing me a shot I couldn’t pronounce — something sharp and herbal that made my nose tingle. That was maybe twenty minutes after we’d met outside this neon-lit bar in central Warsaw, everyone sort of awkward at first but loosening up fast (open bar helps). The music inside was loud enough to feel in your chest, and our guide had us playing drinking games I’d never heard of — I lost badly at “flip cup” but somehow ended up with more friends than pride. There’s this smell of spilt beer and cold night air every time someone opens the door, you know?

We moved as a pack through the city — honestly, I lost track after the third stop. Somewhere near the Polish Vodka Museum, Kuba told us about how vodka is basically Poland’s second language (he said it like a joke but I’m not sure he was joking). Every new bar meant another free shot and some weird challenge — at one point I tried to say “Na zdrowie” right and just got laughed at by Li from Singapore. She was right; my accent is hopeless. The night kind of blurs around the edges after that, all colored lights and snatches of conversation in five different languages.

I remember standing outside in Old Town for a minute — just catching my breath while someone tried to teach me a Polish tongue-twister. The cobblestones were slick from rain earlier, and there’s this moment where everything feels both ancient and brand new. We skipped the line at the last club (felt like cheating), then danced until my legs gave up. Still think about that view of Warsaw at midnight, all noise and laughter spilling out into the street…
