What’s the experience like?

We were already halfway up the steps at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple before I realized how salty the air felt on my skin. Our guide, Minji, pointed out the dragons carved into the stone — she said they’re meant to protect travelers. I tried to snap a photo but got distracted by the sound of waves crashing below. It was busier than I expected for a weekday morning, but somehow it didn’t matter. The temple sits right on the rocks, so close to the sea you can smell it. I remember thinking: this is nothing like Seoul.

After that, we wound through Busan’s streets in our little group (the van was comfy, and honestly, I was grateful for AC). Gamcheon Culture Village looked almost unreal from above — all those pastel houses stacked up the hillside. Minji told us some artists painted murals here after the war; now it’s full of tiny shops and kids selling postcards. I bought a tangerine soda from a guy who grinned when I tried to say “thank you” in Korean (I definitely messed it up). The Songdo Skywalk was next — walking on that glass floor felt weirder than I’d admit out loud. You can see straight down to the water, and there’s this sharp wind that whipped my hair around. We took the ocean cable car across Songdo Beach; someone in our group laughed nervously when we went over a big drop. Honestly, even if you’re not afraid of heights, your stomach might flip a bit. But the view of Busan stretching out — city on one side, open sea on the other — is something I still think about.

We ended near Jagalchi Fish Market where it smelled like brine and fried squid (in a good way). Minji gave us tips on what to try if we wanted lunch later — apparently live octopus is a must if you’re brave enough. Some people peeled off at BIFF Square or Shinsegae Centum City for shopping or spa time; I just wandered through Gukje Market watching locals bargain over dried anchovies. The whole day felt both packed and oddly relaxed at once… hard to explain unless you’ve been there.
