What’s the experience like?

I’ll be honest — we almost missed our pickup because I couldn’t find my phone charger (classic). Our driver was already waiting outside the hotel lobby, not looking annoyed at all, which I appreciated. He greeted us by name and even helped wrangle my suitcase, which had one stubborn wheel. There was this faint scent of cologne mixed with city air as we loaded up — it’s funny how leaving a place can feel so much more real when you’re packing up in silence.

The car itself was spotless and cool inside (thank god for AC), which felt like a small luxury after dragging bags through Barcelona’s sticky morning. Our driver chatted just enough — pointed out where he gets his favorite bocadillo near Plaça d’Espanya and mentioned how traffic can turn wild around 8am. He didn’t rush us when I realized I’d left my water bottle in the lobby; he just smiled and said “no stress.” That little pause made the whole private transfer to Barcelona airport feel less like a transaction and more like someone actually cared if we got there okay.

We cruised past Montjuïc as the sun started to glare off the buildings, and for a second I wondered if I should’ve booked an even later flight just to stay longer. The ride was smooth — WiFi worked fine (I sent my mom a goodbye photo) — and there was this weird calm knowing that for once, we wouldn’t be scrambling for a taxi or elbowing onto the Aerobus with everyone else. Maybe it’s silly, but that last stretch before the airport always gets me feeling both relieved and a bit sad to leave.
