What’s the experience like?

Ever wondered what it’s like to pedal across a volcano? I didn’t, honestly, until we met our guide in Corralejo that morning. He handed me this surprisingly light e-bike (Bosch motor, which meant less huffing than I feared) and gave us a quick run-through — helmet on, gloves fitted, a couple of wobbly circles in the parking lot. The wind smelled salty and dry, like old stone. “Don’t worry about speed,” he said, grinning. “We go your pace.” That helped. I always worry about holding people up.

The first real stop was Calderón Hondo — you know that feeling when you’re suddenly tiny next to something ancient? The crater rim looked almost too perfect, and there were these little chipmunks darting around our feet. Our guide tossed one a crumb; it snatched it so fast I jumped. Sun was sharp but not hot yet. We rolled downhill into Lajares after that — the place buzzed with surfers and folks in flip-flops carrying baguettes or boards. A café smelled like cinnamon and coffee but we didn’t linger (next time I will). Someone shouted something friendly in Spanish as we passed.

Majanicho came up quietly — just a handful of fishing boats and blue doors along the North Shore. We stopped for photos; I tried saying “Majanicho” like our guide did (he laughed at my accent). There was this wide silence except for waves slapping the rocks. Honestly, I could’ve stayed there longer, just listening to nothing much at all. On the way back we pulled over at Popcorn Beach — not actual popcorn but these weird white stones that crunch under your shoes. The ride finished back in Corralejo before lunch, legs buzzing but not dead-tired thanks to the e-bike assist.

I still think about that view from Calderón Hondo’s edge — how small everything felt for a second. If you’re even half-curious about Fuerteventura’s wild side or want an e-bike tour that doesn’t rush you, this is probably it.
