What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed was the way my hands gripped the edge of the basket — not out of fear, just this weird mix of excitement and disbelief. You can smell the sea even up here, faint but sharp, and the wind’s cooler than you’d expect in Dubai. Our pilot, Kareem, joked that he’s seen more sunrises than anyone in the city. He pointed out Atlantis below us, its colors almost cartoon-bright against all that blue water. I tried to spot our hotel but got distracted by how tiny the cars looked curling around Palm Jumeirah.

There’s this moment when you’re high enough that the Burj Khalifa doesn’t even look real anymore — like someone stuck a silver toothpick into a toy city. A little kid next to me kept asking if we could see his school from up here (Kareem laughed and said maybe if he squinted). The skyline glitters differently depending on where you stand in the basket; I leaned over just enough to catch Ain Dubai spinning slowly in the haze. Honestly, I didn’t expect to feel so calm at 300 meters — it’s quieter than you’d think, except for people whispering or gasping every now and then.

I still think about that view back toward the desert — all gold and pale pink, nothing like what you see from ground level. The whole balloon ride over Dubai felt both quick and endless at once. When we landed, my hair smelled faintly of salt and something metallic from the cables (not unpleasant though). We had a quick safety chat before going up; everything felt easygoing but careful, which helped me relax. So yeah, if you’re looking for something different than another mall or brunch, this is it.
