What’s the experience like?

We were already rolling down Sunset Strip when our guide, Marcus, started pointing out old music venues—he had a story for every neon sign. I could smell coffee drifting from some café as we passed, but honestly, my mind was still stuck on the Walk of Fame stop earlier. The sidewalk’s gritty under your shoes and there’s this weird mix of perfume and street food in the air. Someone was setting up for a movie premiere outside the TCL Chinese Theater—red carpet half-unrolled. I tried to find my favorite actor’s star but got distracted by a guy dressed as Spider-Man posing for tips. It’s more chaotic than I expected, but that’s Hollywood, I guess.

The drive up to Griffith Observatory felt like a breather after all that noise. Windows down, you catch this dry California wind that smells faintly like eucalyptus. Marcus pulled over so we could get out—ten minutes to stare at the Hollywood Sign and the city stretching out below. There were families taking selfies everywhere and I overheard a couple arguing about whether that smoggy haze was “just LA weather or something worse.” Honestly? The view is better than any Instagram post. My phone camera didn’t do it justice but I still snapped too many photos anyway.

I didn’t expect Rodeo Drive to feel so... glossy? Everything gleamed—even the people seemed shinier somehow. We stopped at the big Beverly Hills sign; apparently everyone has to take that photo (I did too, even though I felt silly). Marcus joked about celebrity homes nearby—I’m not sure if he was serious or just playing along with our curiosity. The whole tour moved fast but never rushed; there was time to stretch your legs at each stop, ask questions (Marcus knew his stuff), and just watch LA go by through tinted windows. That bit where we cruised past Capitol Records—he played a Sinatra song quietly on the van speakers. It was kind of perfect in its own way.
