What’s the experience like?

“Don’t look down yet!” That’s what our guide shouted as the boat picked up speed — but of course I did, and my stomach did that weird flip. We’d just left the Miami Beach Marina (it’s older than it looks, by the way), and suddenly everything felt louder: the gulls, the wind, even my own heartbeat. The crew was joking around in Spanish and English, making sure everyone’s harness was tight. I liked how they kept checking on us — I get nervous about stuff like this, but they were so casual about it that I started to relax.

The actual parasailing part? Wild. You’re up there for maybe eight or nine minutes — hard to keep track when you’re floating over those turquoise waves and trying to spot Star Island through your hair whipping everywhere. My friend tried to point out Fisher Island but honestly, I was too distracted by how tiny all the boats looked. There’s this moment right after takeoff when it goes quiet except for the wind in your ears, and you can smell salt and sunscreen mixed together (I forgot how strong that gets). It’s not scary once you’re up — more like you’re just hovering above Miami Beach with nothing between you and those crazy blue colors.

Coming back down is almost weirder than going up. Our guide grinned at me when my legs went all wobbly stepping onto the deck again — “First time?” he asked, though he probably already knew. The whole boat laughed when someone tried to take a selfie mid-descent and nearly lost their hat. The trip itself took about an hour and a half since we had a full boat (13 people), but waiting didn’t feel long because everyone swapped stories about where they were from or what freaked them out most about heights. I still think about that view over downtown Miami — it’s one of those things that sticks with you longer than you expect.
