What’s the experience like?

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous walking into Nashville Barrel Co — mostly because I know next to nothing about bourbon except that it burns a bit going down. But the first thing I noticed wasn’t the whiskey; it was this sweet, almost caramel smell hanging in the air. Our guide, Chris, handed us these heavy glasses and grinned like he knew something we didn’t.

The whole “straight from the barrel” thing felt kind of wild — like we were getting away with something only bar owners usually get to do. We tried four different barrels (I kept losing track of which was which, but Chris didn’t mind repeating). Each one tasted completely different: one reminded me of toasted marshmallows, another hit sharp and spicy. There was a lot of passing glasses around and comparing notes — someone said one tasted like banana bread, which honestly made me laugh out loud.

Honestly, picking a favorite was harder than I thought. There’s this weird pressure when you know you’re actually taking a bottle home at the end (which is included — they just hand it over). The group kind of bonded over indecision and bad jokes. By the time we left, my hands smelled faintly of oak and vanilla. It’s funny how quickly an hour goes when you’re sipping whiskey straight from the source in Nashville. I still think about that last sip sometimes — maybe too often.
