What’s the experience like?

"You ever tried a mimosa before 10am?" our captain grinned as he handed me a glass, sunlight bouncing off the rim. The Gansett rocked gently under my feet — not enough to spill anything, but just enough to remind you this was real water, not some theme park ride. I could smell the salt in the air before we even left the dock in Newport. There was this mix of sunscreen and old wood from the boat itself, which I weirdly liked.

Our guide — I think her name was Emily? — started pointing out stuff right away. She had this way of telling stories that made me actually listen (which is saying something for me before coffee). We passed by Fort Adams State Park and she explained how it used to protect Newport’s port ages ago. I didn’t expect to care about old forts at all, but seeing it from the water made it feel different somehow. Like you could almost picture ships coming in, or maybe that’s just because of the sea breeze hitting my face.

Some people grabbed Del’s Lemonade instead of mimosas — apparently that’s a Rhode Island thing. I tried it too (tart and sweet, kind of melts into your tongue). There was a couple next to us who kept laughing at their own private jokes; honestly, their energy was contagious. The whole thing felt relaxed — no one rushing you or talking over each other. Just slow gliding past sailboats and listening to gulls squabble overhead. I still think about that view back toward town with all those mismatched rooftops catching the sun.
